Optus cuts 115 jobs

Network division takes hit

Optus has today confirmed it will axe 115 jobs across Australia following a review of the efficiency of its network division.

The cuts will hit senior and middle management roles, according to the company, along with positions in engineering and support.

An Optus spokesperson said in a written statement the redundancies will hit regular staff and contractors, and will result in the closure of job vacancies.

“There will be a reduction in headcount through contractor terminations, redundancies and canceled vacancies,” she said.

“The [cuts] are from across all levels of the networks division, including senior and middle management as well as operational, engineering and support roles.

“This review has resulted in an organisational restructure of our division to improve the way we operate and deliver greater efficiencies.”

The confirmation follows initial reports in Fairfax newspapers that the telco would axe about 400 jobs.
