The late Mike Grime
Former ANZ IT chief Mike Grime passed away after suffering a heart attack in his home in France last Friday. He was 62 years old.
News of Grime passing shocked senior management at the bank who served alongside him during his role as managing director of operations technology and shared services (OTSS).
ANZ CEO Mike Smith said Grime, who retired in February 2007, will be fondly remembered by staff and former executive board members.
"It's clear he was highly regarded and a well-liked colleague. I know that Mike will be missed by many whose paths he crossed, and our thoughts and condolences go out to his partner Kate, family and friends.
"Mike was at home with Kate in France at the time of his passing."
During his four-year tenure, Grime was responsible for ANZ's global IT solutions, infrastructure, core support, back office payments, shared services, sourcing, and the bank's human resources program, People Capital, which helped the organisation train and retain staff.
He also oversaw the construction of two new sites in Bangalore and Melbourne, where he was based.
Prior to commencing his role at ANZ in 2003, he held a variety of senior IT roles including head of operations at Standard Chartered Bank over a 10 years tenure, where he oversaw large projects including the bank's Y2K program, the design of a future operating model, and the IT integration during the acquisition of Grindlays Bank.
Grime, a keen pilot, guitarist and graduate of Manchester University in the UK, also held senior operations and technology roles at Citibank for more than 12 years.
ANZ deputy CIO Kieran Griffiths will oversee IT operations until the bank sources a replacement for former CIO Peter Dalton who switched departments late last year.
