Nokia Siemens opens network management center in India

The new center addresses the growing market for network services

Nokia Siemens Networks has set up a network management center in India, its second in the country, to meet the growing trend for operators to outsource network management and maintenance.

The center in Noida near Delhi is a Global Network Solutions Center (GNSC), and is in addition to GNSCs that the company already operates in Chennai in south India, and in Lisbon, Nokia Siemens said on Monday.

Nokia Siemens set up a GNSC in Noida as it already runs a global services hub there, a company spokeswoman said. The new center will also provide redundancy for the Chennai and Lisbon centers, she added.

Nokia Siemens announced in 2007 a US$100 million investment plan for India, running over three years. The GNSC at Noida is part of the investment proposed.

The company also opened a manufacturing plant in Chennai last year. This plant addresses demand from the local market where over 5,000 Nokia base stations are being installed every month, the spokeswoman said.

Nokia Siemens has more than 50 offices in India and a workforce of more than 8,000 people across 200 locations. The staff work on a variety of functions including sales, services, research and development and marketing.

India is adding about 10 million new subscribers every month on an average, throwing open a large market for mobile infrastructure and services.
