IP Australia, the government agency responsible for administering patents, trade marks, designs and plant breeder’s rights, is to deploy a intellectual property (IP) Rights Management solution as part of a push toward better business processes.
The project aims to provide simplified and agile processes and, where possible, implement common tools and infrastructure to support streamlined and harmonised IP Rights processing, according to IP Australia.
This will be done through systems integration, establishing a set of generic IT system capabilities that can be extended to support core business processing across the four IP Rights business lines, as well as developing and enhancing other capabilities.
The project is part of the agency’s IP Rights Modernisation Program (IPRM), which was set up in August last year to improve business systems within IP Australia.
The IPRM consists of the IP rights processing project and an Integrated Customer Service Delivery (ICSD) project aimed at rationalising service delivery channels and enabling IP Australia to automate current manual, paper-based service request processes.
Up to 800 IP Australia staff will use the new IP Rights Management solution to manage about 378,304 patent, 389,989 Trade Mark, 38,388 design and, 3,806 Plant Breeders Rights processes a year.
