CA names new CEO

Longtime board member William McCracken will take over for retiring John Swainson

Infrastructure software giant CA's board of directors has appointed William McCracken CEO, the company announced Thursday.

McCracken, who was previously executive chairman of the board, succeeds John Swainson, who announced his retirement in September. The new CEO joined CA's board in 2005 following a long career at IBM.

CA appears to be in sound financial shape as McCracken takes the helm. In third-quarter earnings also announced Thursday, CA reported $US1.13 billion in revenue, up 8 percent year-over-year, and $US257 million in net income, a 24 percent increase.
