Suncorp gifts Unisys contract extensions

Business processing contracts to be extended in long term arrangement

Suncorp has granted Unisys extensions to two long-term business processing contracts.

Under the deal, Unisys “will provide Suncorp’s banking and insurance operations with cheque processing services for a further two years and direct entry electronic payments for a further three years. “

Unisys has assisted Suncorp in operations over the past eight years. Since 2001, it has processed 68 million cheque, direct debit and credit payment transactions annually for Suncorp, hosted the financial institution’s payment system for electronic cheque image archive and retrieval, and provided Suncorp with settlement and clearing services.

Other financial institutions that rely on Unisys services include RAMS Home Loans and Australia Post.

Unisys received an additional contract renewal earlier this year in January as it retained its IT support with the Queensland Department of Education and Training for another three years.

In October last year, Suncorp reported that it has slashed its IT costs by 30 per cent following the wrap up of the technology component of its integration with Promina Group, which it acquired in 2007.

The integration has seen Suncorp roll out a standard desktop, directory and collaboration suite across the whole business and virtualised some 3000 Windows and Linux servers and IBM AIX mainframes down to 200 physical machines.

It has also rationalised and virtualised its data centre footprint consolidating seven data centres down to three based in Brisbane.

As part of the data centre consolidation process, Suncorp , which also includes some IBM product.
