Recession has made companies more cost-sensitive and this has increased the popularity of solutions from HP, according to two separate research reports by Gabriel Consulting Group and Alinean Inc.
The company offers flexible solutions with lower total cost of ownership and more number of global companies are replacing Sun and IBM systems with HP's offerings. These companies are also pleased with HP's tools and support services for simplifying and streamlining their migration process.
Higher rating by clients
HP notes the '2008 UNIX Vendor Preference' survey results from Dan Olds, Gabriel Consulting Group that shows clients think HP Integrity servers and the HP-UX 11i v3 operating system are better than comparable solutions from both IBM and Sun on several mission-critical computing criteria.
The company also notes a November 2009 report titled 'The business value of HP-UX 11i v3', by Alinean, a provider of on-demand sales tools and related services. The report shows that over a three-year span, HP-UX 11i v3 running on HP Integrity BL870c delivers a 23 per cent lower total cost of ownership than IBM AIX 6.1 running on IBM BladeCenter JS23.
Many companies have already migrated their data centre infrastructures from Sun or IBM to HP Integrity servers running the HP-UX operating system including South Korean Kuhmo Tires, Bernalillo County from New Mexico and VTB bank from Russia.
"When Bernalillo County needed to provide additional services to residents, we turned to HP to provide an infrastructure that could help us cut costs and implement applications faster," said Paul Roybal, chief information officer, Bernalillo County. "By deploying Integrity server blades with HP-UX, we decreased the number of physical servers, improved overall performance as well as reduced power and cooling requirements by 40 per cent."
Easy migration process
Using the new tools, support and incentives, HP's clients can easily cross all the seemingly huge migration challenges. All those clients that are transitioning to HP can leverage new solutions that can accelerate and automate the migration process and further reduce the TCO of transitioning Solaris-based applications to HP-UX with HP's newly enhanced Solaris to HP-UX Porting Kit.
HP is also offering Solaris Software Transition Kit that simplifies migration of Solaris applications to HP-UX. A special offer is available for clients who purchase HP-UX 11i v3 and support between now and 31 July 2010. Organisations deciding to avail this offer can receive an HP BladeSystem c7000 enclosure and HP Integrity BL860c server blade starter kit at no additional cost.
But to qualify for redemption, customers should not have purchased HP 9000 servers, HP AlphaServer, HP NonStop servers, HP Integrity servers and the HP ProLiant DL785 Server in the three years prior.
