Telstra has announced a new $4.5 million contract with ME Bank. The telco will provide products and services aimed at supporting the bank's "growing and increasingly mobile workforce".
The agreement will see ME Bank use Blackberry devices and services running on both the Telstra Next IP and Next G networks.
Executive manager of IT at ME Bank, Shane Kuret, said Telstra was chosen because of the extent of coverage they could provide in remote and rural areas across Australia.
“We face ever-increasing competition in the home loans market, with customers demanding flexible and immediate responses to their banking queries," Kuret said.
"By using the Telstra Next G network, our mobile banking managers can field calls from our customer contact centre to answer queries, as well as have reliable Internet access for research and email communication while on the road."
The news comes as Telstra CEO David Thodey yesterday predicted a mobile Internet revolution will take place in the next few years.
“Within three to four years I forecast that virtually every person over the age of 10 will have access to mobile Internet with one or more devices and this will become a critically important way for people to access the Internet," Thodey said.
