BenQ announces ridiculously slim LED monitors

BenQ has introduced what it claims are the slimmest LCD monitors in the world.

BenQ has introduced what it claims are the slimmest LCD monitors in the world. The new super-slim LED-backlit monitors--marketed as part of the V Series--measure a mere 15mm (0.59in) thick, and will come in 22- and 24-inch variations.

LED backlight technology is more energy efficient than CCFL backlight technology most commonly used with LCDs, and can allow for thinner screens. LED backlighting also lasts longer on average than equivalent CCFL backlighting.

Aside from its slender design, BenQ claims in its press release that these new monitors are energy efficient and will have a dynamic contrast ratio of 10,000,000:1. It's important to note that contrast ratios aren't measured in a consistent manner across manufacturers, so don't rely on them as a measure of display quality. Instead, use your own eyes to gauge.

Both also feature full 1080p (1920-by-1080 pixels) resolution and HDMI input.

The two monitors are expected to ship in June in the US. The 24-inch model will cost US$300, and the 22-inch model (actually 21.5 inches) will go for $250. For more information, see BenQ's Website.
