Department of Health and Ageing seeks e-health CIO

CIOs play musical chairs in buoyant market

Movement continues within CIO ranks as two more organisations advertise for chief information offices, including the federal Department of Health and Aging.

The department is this week advertising for a Chief Information and Knowledge Officer to develop “a portfolio-wide framework for capturing, documenting and using information and knowledge”.

The senior executive group role would report to the secretary of the department and will likely focus on information management surrounding e-health and personal electronic health records. It is based in Canberra.

E-health has become a key technology focus in light of the federal government’s allocation of $467 million to electronic health records over the next two years.

Michael Page Executive Search recruitment is also advertising for a Sydney-based chief information officer to guide a “globally recognised leader in business services and outsourced deliverables”. Responsibilities include defining a strategic plan for the IS function.

Australian CIO ranks have undergone a lot of movement in recent weeks — a sign of continuing optimism in the economy. Former NSW Education CIO, Stephen Wilson, will join Qantas and former CIO of Melbourne-based education advisory company IDP Education, Michelle Beveridge, has just begun a combined CIO, business manager role at Open Universities Australia.

Telstra will also be on the hunt for a new CIO after John McInerney quit the role recently.

The Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research (DFAT) is also seeking a CIO.
