The Victorian government has entered into a contract to provide private cloud computing services across government agencies and has pledged to create 100 new jobs as part of the project.
The CenITex project will see NetApp and Dimension Data work in conjunction with the Brumby government to move shared services across the state to the cloud with the first customer site going live in August.
Victorian Premier John Brumby said the project will capitalise on the recovery from the GFC.
“We are doing the hard work to create Victorian jobs and help our businesses capitalise on the worldwide recovery from the Global Financial Crisis,” Brumby said.
Brumby said the project is set to benefit from the new virtualisation centre of excellence currently being established in Melbourne.
“The new program will also see the establishment of NetApp’s world-first Global Centre for Virtualisation Excellence established in Melbourne – yet another reason why we are quickly being regarded as the ICT capital of Australia,” he said.
In May, South Australian government CIO, Andrew Mills, said cloud storage solutions were beginning to have a greater impact on the business models of many government entities.
