NetApp secures CenITex storage deal

Dimension Data and NetApp may provide up to 200 petabytes of storage for Victorian IT shared services agency CenITex

Dimension Data and storage vendor NetApp have won a deal to provide storage, backup and recovery services to Victorian IT shared services agency CenITex, in what is being described as a private cloud computing deal.

"The new contract means NetApp and Dimension Data will assist in delivering secure, private cloud computing services to an extensive government customer base, with the first customer going live in August," said a statement issued today by NetApp.

The storage vendor said the new contract would create in excess of 100 new fulltime jobs in metro and regional Victoria over the next few years -- through NetApp and its "partner ecosystem".

DiData's Australian chief Steve Nola described the deal as "one of the largest cloud-based storage deals in Australia to date", while NetApp Australia and New Zealand Peter O'Connor said the vendor's "Global Centre for Virtualisation Excellence" in Melbourne would be key to the contract.
