In an unprecedented move for Australia's largest Internet service provider (ISP), Telstra has halved the cost of its most expensive BigPond broadband plan.
Telstra customers were notified of the new broadband pricing on Friday, which reflects all the ISP's BigPond Turbo ADSL and BigPond Elite ADSL2+ and cable broadband services.
Pricing now starts from $9.95 per month for a 2GB data quota on a 24 month contract with additional Telstra services. The most expensive home broadband plan, BigPond Elite (200GB) provides 200GB of data for $89.95 per month on a 12 month contract; half the cost of the plan, previously.
Telstra customers will also be able to upgrade to the 200GB plan on a 24 month contract for a reduced price of $69.95 per month.
The ISP's updated pricing comes as competitors such as Optus and value-added service providers like TPG continue to undercut the incumbent with better value broadband plans.
“Telstra realises customers’ needs are changing, which is why our new BigPond broadband plans deliver greater data allowances at lower prices, allowing household members to do more on the internet for less,” Telstra Executive Director Consumer, Rebekah O’Flaherty, said in a statement.
