Navman Wireless releases iPhone app for fleet tracking

Aimed at helping CIOs keep an eye on fleet management

Navman Wireless has released an iPhone application set to help CIOs and business leaders keep a close eye on vehicles in the transportation industry.

The free application allows companies to check the real-time location of any fleet vehicles, has a messaging function, replays recent movements of vehicles and can route vehicles to certain destinations.

CTO of Navman Wireless, Paresh Nagda, said the application will enhance mobility.

“It’s the first of a new generation of applications on Navman Wireless’ product roadmap. These applications will give managers-on-the-move the information they need to make decisions about resources and the tools they need to communicate with people in the field right from their fingertips, wherever they happen to be,” he said.

The application was developed by New Zealand based startup Pocket Logistics after demand in the Australian market skyrocketed.

Vice President of Navman Wireless Asia-Pacific, Ian Daniel, said the application will help managers in the transport industry by enabling real-time access.

“This application will appeal to operations managers in the transport industry where many businesses operate around the clock. Being able to access real time information about your fleet anywhere anytime is really important for accountability and peace of mind, and gives you better information for decision-making,” he said.

The news comes as LogMeIn announced the Ignition for iPhone and iPad applications now include a ‘direct mode’ feature that allows users to interact with their remote computers as if they were touch screen devices, and as the National Transport Commission last month outlined how the use of technology, telematics and performance based standards will potentially save $3 billion in fuel and other costs.
