Funding boost to move councils online

The federal government has made available more than $2.8 million in funding to regional councils to kickstart their move to get services online.

This total was boosted yesterday when the Minister for Information Technology Senator Richard Alston announced further grants totalling $360,000 under the Networking the Nation (NTN) program.

Councils will use the funding to improve electronic systems used for recording financial, geographic, technical, management, planning and reporting information to communicate with state and federal governments as well as customers.

The grants are made available to the Australian Local Government Association (ALGA) to improve systems and standards for members under the Local Government Standard Operability in Transactions project.
