RES reshapes its software range

Jazzes up its management tools

Dutch virtualisation management company RES Software is to offer its VDX (virtual desktop extender) as a standalone tool.

The product was part of the company's Workspace Manager product but is now being sold as an individual component due to customer demand said Bob Jannssen CTO of RES.

VDX allows organisations to enhance a virtual desktop with applications that run locally, meaning that users have no need to switch between multiple sessions. "One way that it's helpful," said Jannssen is if you bring your own PC into a corporate environment. It will help access local applications.

The company has also repackaged two existing products together into a three module suite called RES Automation manager - this will include a new feature called Service Orchestration. This module will allow organisations to set business rules to automate their service delivery needs and offer IT as a Service to end-users, for example, by establishing an IT service catalogue for end users. Once chosen and approved by a manager, the services will automatically be turned on, removing IT dependency and saving valuable time.

Both RES Automation Manager and VDX are, along with the company's Workspace Manager, part of the company's Dynamic Studio Desktop suite.

The company sees plenty of opportunities in the growing interest in desktop virtualisation. "RES is a strictly management company, we don't do the virtualisation ourselves," said Jannssen, "what we offer is a way to manage profiles, policies and scripting."
