Following the release of its short list of preferred suppliers back in July, the NSW government procurement office has now called for submissions from the candidates for its data centre reform project.
Data centre reform is one of the eight “People First” programs of the NSW government which will involve acquiring capacity in two dedicated data centres to house the computer systems from the existing decentralised government agency data centres throughout NSW.
In a tender notice released today, NSW Procurement, a division of the NSW Department of Services, Technology and Administration (DSTA) has called for the five short listed companies to detail their data centre capabilities.
DSTA is looking at them to provide “scalable, robust data centre capacity in fit-for-purpose data centres to satisfy NSW government agencies’ long term data centre capacity requirements”.
The five short listed companies are:
- Global Switch Property (Australia) Pty Ltd
- Gresham Property Investments Ltd
- Leighton Contractors Pty Ltd
- Macquarie Capital Group
- Plenary Group
The Government Chief Information Office is also a division of DSTA and NSW government CIO Emmanuel Rodriguez is a member of the data centre reform program board.
Bidders need to include the operation and site management services and the provision and maintenance of data centre capacity.
According to the Chief Information Office, the data centre reform project has the potential to prevent the consumption of some 473GWh of electricity and the associated greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to about 7500 cars for fifteen years from 2011.
The closing date for submissions is January 31, 2011. It is a selected tender and responses will only be accepted from the short listed companies.
