Optus and Vodafone to share Sony Ericsson's Xperia Arc

Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Arc smartphone will be available on Optus and Vodafone networks by early April with pricing for the device yet to be announced.

The device runs the Android operating system and touts Sony technology including new display technology called the Mobile Bravia Engine.

The phone is 8.7mm at its thinnest and has a 4.2 inch multi-touch screen that was designed for entertainment.

It also has an 8-megapixel camera which enables the capture of high quality pictures and HD videos, in addition to an HDMI connector to view photos or video on HDTV.

Sony Ericsson Oceania managing director, Brendan Johnston, said the Arc was a smartphone that will appeal to users seeking entertainment and the latest version of Android, and was a device he was looking forward to offering Optus and Vodafone customers.

As reported by Computerworld Australia, Vodafone won the exclusive rights to carry HTC’s Desire Z smartphone following the Australian launch of the device in mi March.

The device was unveiled globally last year and has been touted as a social networking-focused smartphone, with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard that features a 'pop' hinge for fast access. It also has a 3.7-inch screen, a 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and 720p video capture, Android OS 2.2, and 800MHz processor.
