iOS — the operating system used in Apple's iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch — will dominate the worldwide tablet market through 2015, according to analyst firm Gartner. Sixty-nine per cent of 'media tablets' — the company's term for touchscreen devices with displays measuring five to 15 inches — sold this year will run iOS, with this percentage dropping to 47 per cent in 2015.
Android, Google's mobile platform, will own 39 per cent of the tablet market in 2015, Gartner indicated, up from 20 per cent in 2011.
HP's webOS will represent three per cent of 2015 tablet sales, with RIM's QNX, the OS on which the forthcoming BlackBerry PlayBook is based, grabbing a 10 per cent share. MeeGo will score one per cent of sales, Gartner predicted.
