Dell's US public and large enterprise global marketing vice president and expat New Zealander, Andy Lark, has been lured back down under with a chief marketing officer role at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA).

Lark, who announced the resignation on his blog, said he was "fulfilling a long-standing goal" to give his family the experience of living down under.

"It has been an exciting four years [with Dell] and I leave enormously proud of all we have achieved together," he wrote.

Prior to joining Dell, he was chief marketing officer at Silicon Valley start-up LogLogic, and also worked at Sun Microsystems as vice president for global marketing and communications.

During his time at Dell, Lark was criticised by some in the IT industry for stating in an interview with CIO Australia that the iPad would fail in the enterprise because its high price and complexity were "unappealing" to CIOs.

CBA retail banking services group executive, Ross McEwan, said in a statement that Lark was a "high calibre" executive with experience leading global marketing functions at companies in Asia, Europe and the US.

"He has vast marketing experience across business and consumer sectors, as well as a strong record in emerging technologies and use of new media channels such as social media," McEwan said.

Lark is due to start with CBA in Sydney on 1 July 2011.
