Australians in rural and regional areas will be connected to the NBN Co's 2.3Ghz LTE fixed-wireless broadband network using devices provided by NetComm (ASX:NTC) following the signing of a deal with Ericsson, estimated to be worth $200 million.
NetComm managing director, David Stewart, said in a statement that the rollout of the devices will commence from mid-2012.
"The deal [with Ericsson] is expected to have a significant impact on our revenue from 2013 to 2015 financial years," he said.
NBN Co signed a 10-year, $1.1 billion contract with Ericsson in June to build and operate its 4G LTE fixed-wireless network for the seven per cent of Australians not receiving access to other National Broadband Network (NBN) services, such as optic fibre.
The association with NetComm and Ericsson is part of NBN Co's objective to make high-speed broadband available to every Australian, with the seven per cent of premises not covered by the NBN to be connected by wireless or satellite.
