Attorney-general's department on the hunt for CIO

The successful candidate will report to the department's deputy secretary

The federal attorney-general’s department is on the hunt for a new CIO to drive its ICT systems delivery.

According to the advertisment, the new CIO will report to the department’s deputy secretary and play a key role in developing business capabilities and providing advice and leadership to the department.

The department would not comment on whether the successful candidate would replace current CIO, Hilary Russell, who has been with the department since February 2010. It is understood Russell is currently on leave.

“To be a strong contender for this important role you will excel in working in complex and challenging environments and be an outstanding leader with a substantial record of achievement in adopting innovative business solutions,” the advertisement reads.

The department is also looking for competent skills in strategic planning and the ability to bring practical solutions to fruition with a focus on customer service and the ability to liaise with stakeholders to build and maintain relationships.

The department has 16 Canberra locations, offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Christmas Island, Cocos Islands, Norfolk Island and Jervis Bay, as well as the Emergency Australia Institute in Mount Macedon.

In 2010 (PDF), the department completed an ICT infrastructure refresh in its Indian Ocean Territories, Jervis Bay and Norfolk Island locations as well as upgrades to department voice systems, storage environments and gateway capabilities for public-facing services.

In August, the department flagged plans to drop its TRIM-based records management system and move to one that integrates with the agency’s new Microsoft SharePoint environment.

Applications close on 17 October.
