ANZ today announced the appointment of Alistair Currie as group chief operating officer (COO).
The announcement will mean that CIO Anne Weatherston will report to Currie, with CEO Mike Smith saying the move is part of an integration strategy across the business.
“We have established a clear technology strategy for the group and we have a significant competitive advantage in our technology and operations hubs,” Smith said.
“This foundation now gives us the opportunity to change gear with our super regional strategy through an integrated approach between technology, shared services and operations that delivers value to customers more quickly and drives productivity gains.”
Currie will now be responsible for the management of technology, shared services and operations, overseeing major projects across the business.
With Currie commencing work in the role from tomorrow, Smith said current COO, David Cartwright, will leave the bank.
“I’d like to thank David for his contribution to ANZ,” Smith said. “Under his leadership we have developed a new professionalism in operations, grown our hub in Bangalore and established new hubs in Manila and Chengdu.”
