The Westpac Group has found a new CIO, Clive Whincup, from within its internal ranks.

He replaces former CIO, Bob McKinnon, who has moved to the Group Services division as an enterprise executive. McKinnon will look after the strategic investment priorities (SIPs) portfolio, an offshoring program and Westpac’s process excellence and innovation agenda.

Whincup joined the bank in May 2009 as service delivery applications general manager and was promoted to service delivery group general manager in November 2010 where he was responsible for service delivery in applications, infrastructure, engineering and sustainability.

Prior to joining Westpac, Whincup was director of service delivery, group infrastructure and IT operations for Lloyds TSB, UK. Before this, he was CIO for Lloyds’ UK Retail Bank.

Westpac chief operating officer, John Arthur, said in a statement that over the past three years, Bob McKinnon had made an “enormous contribution” leading the transformation of Westpac’s technology capability.

“I am delighted that he has agreed to stay with us to help progress our transformational agenda across all of group services,” he said.

In October 2010, McKinnon made the decision to delay Westpac’s integration of its core systems with St George Bank’s Hogan platform until 2014. Instead, the bank has focused on customer facing technologies such as online banking and payments.
