Huawei Australia hires new CFO

Luke Austin to replace outgoing chief financial officer, Brian Hoppe

Former Lenovo Australia and New Zealand chief financial officer, Luke Austin, has stepped in to fill the shoes of Brian Hoppe, the chief financial officer for Huawei Australia.

Hoppe has been promoted to a senior management role at the company’s finance department in Shenzhen, China.

Austin was at Lenovo for six years with two of those years spent in Singapore as the planning director for Asia-Pacific, after which he oversaw the financial management of Lenovo in Japan.

According to a statement, he joined Huawei Australia due to its growth potential as the company had gone from 300 staff in 2010 to 800 in 2011.

“The company also has a localisation rate of 85 per cent — it’s great to be a part of that trend,” he said.

The appointment follows the creation by Huawei in June of an Australian board with former politicians Alexander Downer and John Brumby, as well as current chairperson of DMS Maritime Services, John Lord, being selected.

In addition, the company has signed contracts with a number of telecommunication and internet service providers including Vodafone, Optus, Telstra, AAPT and Primus.
