Internet service provider (ISP) iiNet has announced its plans to expand its services to more than 38,500 households and businesses in Darwin and regional Queensland.
Casuarina, Nightcliff and Palmerston residents in Darwin together with Dalby, Emerald and Mount Isa residents in Queensland will receive ADSL2+ broadband over the internet infrastructure built by Nextgen Networks as part of the Federal Government’s $250 million Regional Backbone Blackspots Program (RBBP).
iiNet chief executive, Michael Malone, said that while it was looking forward to the National Broadband Network (NBN) rollout, this would take time.
“These network expansion plans cement our position of having the largest competitive ADSL+ broadband network in the country,” he said in a statement.
The ISP owns Westnet and Internode, which it acquired on 31 January for $105 million.
