Telstra has finally signed a commercial agreement with NBN Co to enable the telco to sell its services over the Federal Government’s National Broadband Network (NBN).
Telstra is the last major telco to sign on to the wholesale broadband agreement (WBA) which is the 12-month contract ISPs have entered to sell commercial services over the NBN.
A spokesperson from Telstra confirmed the signing of the agreement, the terms of which it had been negotiating with NBN Co for some months, but would not comment on whether the negotiations had been successful.
Australia’s number two telco also recently signed the agreement after conducting months of negotiations with the network wholesaler.
Optus signed the WBA, despite ongoing concerns around regulatory oversight and service assurance levels, on the provision that the discussion would be ongoing for the long-term version of the WBA.
In addition to Optus, Telstra joins the likes of Primus, iiNet and TPG, all of which have already signed the interim agreement.
At its half yearly results earlier this month, Telstra chief executive, David Thodey, said all NBN-related work was on track, including the impending approval of the Structural Separation Undertaking.
“We’re working constructively with the ACCC and we’re making progress and we’re hoping we can bring these negotiations to a successful conclusion in the near future but we’ve just got to work through all the details and get this thing right,” Thodey said at the time.
“We’re working really diligently on the NBN side; we’ve got to be ready as we move into an NBN world and I’m very pleased with preparation work the company has done.”
