Dimension Data releases Managed Cloud Platforms in Amsterdam and Sydney

The company also plans to deploy MCPs in the Middle East, Africa and Asia this year

ICT services and solutions provider, Dimension Data, has announced the availability of new Managed Cloud Platforms (MCPs) for the delivery of enterprise-class Cloud services in Amsterdam and Sydney.

The integrated platform, together with the company’s public MCPs in the United States, provides access to enterprise-class public Cloud and hosted private Cloud services.

CEO of Dimension Data’s Cloud Solutions Business Unit, Steve Nola, said in a statement that with the company's MCPs in the US, Amsterdam and Sydney, the company would be targeting enterprises in search of a Cloud offering which could be delivered around the globe.

General Manager of Dimension Data Australia’s Data Centre Solutions, Peter Prowse, said that the reason for setting up its MCPs in Sydney, Australia is to be able to offer Australian organisations a more consistent experience in using Cloud services locally and globally.

“We understand that some organisations and some government regulations require data to remain within a region or within a locale so having this global Cloud exchange enables us to offer geo-fencing to customers that need it while they get a consistent experience around the globe,” Prowse said.

Prowse added that he sees the take up of these Cloud servicers to be positive. “From an Australian perspective, we see Australian businesses as early adopters of good technological solutions and we think that they will see the Managed Cloud Platform or our public compute as a service offering being resonant in Australia as a very good move,” Prowse said.

“I think that Australian organisations and Australian CIOs in particular are constantly battling how to decouple cost from growth and they see that being able to provide some of these services from a consumption model gives them a natural advantage in the market place."

Prowse said that the solutions are not a “one size fits all”, but rather offers organisations the option to “take advantage of either the public or private compute as a service offering.”

“When I talk to CIOs today, they’re very much focussed on providing an outcome to their business so they’re looking at ways of optimising their cost model, optimising their risk model and increasing their agility for their end customers,” Prowse said.

“We believe that our solution gives them the ability to then go and focus on those higher value conversations with their customers and free-up resources to continue to innovate and respond to business needs.”

The company also plans to deploy MCPs in the Middle East and Africa by April and in Asia by June this year.

In December last year, Data Dimension completed the acquisition of BlueFire, making it part of the company’s Cloud solutions business unit, together with OpSource, the US-based Cloud company it acquired in June 2011.
