Immigration department seeks mainframe services

The Department of Immigration and Citizenship filed a request for tender on June 18 for services from July 2013 to June 2018.

The Department of Immigration and Citizenship has gone to tender for fully managed mainframe and other services. The request comes as the overall government looks to consolidate ICT activities, the Department said in tender documents.

The request asks a service provider to provide fully managed mainframe services including personnel, equipment, software and other necessary resources.

In addition, the Department seeks a firm to provide a one-stop-shop service desk for department personnel to report problems and ask questions related to ICT. The Department also wants the provider deliver support and management of the end-user computing environment, fully managed storage area network services for midrange and end-user computing servers and support for midrange server equipment and professional services. The Department said it would provide the equipment and manage the server.

The Department “will consider options for the physical location of the Mainframe Services, including: (i) locating the Mainframe Services for all Mainframe environments including Disaster Recovery Mainframe Services in approved [Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO)] Data Centres located in Canberra; or (ii) providing the Mainframe Services including Disaster Recovery Mainframe Services within Australia,” it said.

“If the Mainframe Services are in Canberra, the Department will make the necessary arrangements for the facilities to be provided in AGIMO approved Data Centres,” the Department said. “The Service Provider will be responsible for the provision of all Infrastructure and Services, excluding Data Centre facilities.”

The department seeks services from July 2013 to June 2018, with an option for four additional one-year terms. The request for tender closes 20 August. An optional industry briefing will be held on 25 June.
