NBN Co has appointed John McInerney as its new CIO, filling a hole left by Claire Rawlins, who quit the position in late August after three years.

The company confirmed an Australian Financial Review report earlier today that the former Telstra CIO had been appointed to the role.

NBN Co confirmed with CIO Australia that McInerney will start on December 3. He joins the company from Hewlett Packard, where he was vice president of infrastructure technology, based on Singapore. Prior to that, he was group managing director, CIO at Telstra.

He has held several senior management roles in the telecommunications and technology sectors over the past 15 years.

“We are delighted to welcome an executive of John’s calibre and experience to this important role within the company," an NBN spokesperson told CIO Australia.

"Our IT and systems are core to the NBN and to the operation and delivery of a wholesale network designed to serve the people of Australia for decades to come.”
