Newcastle stadium next in line for NCR POS system

System to go live in December in time for football A-league match.

When the Newcastle Jets A-League football team plays Hunter Stadium in Newcastle on December 8, an NCR point of sale (POS) system will be making its debut at the stadium. The POS system is designed to enable fans to purchase food and drink items faster.

The 33,000 capacity stadium is set to feature 90 NCR Quest POS terminals which will be used to report, analyse and forecast sales from the stadium’s 28 food and beverage outlets.

According to Hunter Stadium’s catering provider, Gema Group, the POS terminals were selected to withstand “punishing” usage conditions while delivering very fast speed of service.

“This is critical in a stadium environment, where huge numbers of consumers make purchases in a small time window before taking their seats,” said Gema Group’s general manager, Paul Valenti.

“The NCR solution was the first and only choice for Newcastle because it has already proven itself at Canberra Stadium.”

He added that Venue Manager, which is set to be implemented with the POS terminals, will help the company roll-out new services, such as loaded tickets, in-seat service and smartphone contactless ‘tap and go’ payments.

NCR touch-screen POS terminals have also been installed at the 15,500 seat Perth Arena.

The arena is using mobile NCR units running on high-speed wireless for concessions from seats and in corporate and VIP suites.
