Up to 60 video and game rental stores in Western Australia are being audited by the Fair Work Ombudsman.
Areas in the audit campaign include Perth, Albany, Bunbury, Busselton, Esperance, Kalgoorlie and Mandurah.
Stores are being checked to ensure shop assistants are receiving correct wages and in line with minimum standards and penalty rates.
Employees are also being checked to ensure they are keeping correct records and adhering to pay slip obligations.
“This campaign is an ideal opportunity for operators of video and game stores in WA to ensure they understand their obligations under workplace laws,” Nicholas Wilson, Fair Work ombudsman, said in a statement.
“It is important we ensure that employers are aware of their obligations and that employees are receiving their full lawful entitlements.”
Employees were previously award-free but are now covered by the General Retail Industry Modern Award 2010.
