Telstra launches BlackBerry Pearl 3G in world first

Telstra (ASX:TLS) has become the world’s first operator to launch the BlackBerry Pearl 3G smartphone.

Telstra has an exclusive on the RIM handset for the next three months, the company said.

“Considering the fast growing consumer interest in smartphones, we think the new BlackBerry Pearl 3G addresses a substantial market opportunity in Australia,” RIM managing director for Australia and New Zealand Adele Beachley said.

The company has meanwhile revealed that its Telstra T-Hub will be advertised in 3D in cinemas on Thursday.

TLS shares have today risen a 1.38% to $2.930.
