Woolworths has announced that it will open a series of home improvement stores in Victoria as part of a joint venture with US hardware retailer Lowe’s.
The companies intend to open their first store in Coolaroo in 2011, with 30 more stores planned for the state over the next five years.
Woolworths is investing $400 million into the project, which is expected to generate 4000 new retail jobs in Victoria, as well as 11,000 construction and flow-on jobs.
“Victorians are passionate about their homes and their hardware, which is why Victoria is such a natural choice for our first store location,” Woolworths CEO Michael Luscombe said.
