Kathmandu appoints James Strong to chair board

Camping equipment retailer Kathmandu today appointed business veteran James Strong as the company’s chairman.

Strong is currently chairman of Woolworths and Insurance Australia Group, and a director of Qantas and the Australian Grand Prix corporation.

He has formerly been CEO of Qantas, DB Group and Trans Australian Airlines, chairman of clothing line Rip Curl, and executive director of the Australian Mining Industry Council.

“I have for a long time admired the Kathmandu brand and its products, and I am excited to have the opportunity to be personally involved in the business.” Strong said.

Kathmandu operates 84 stores across Australia, New Zealand and the UK. The company is based in New Zealand, but plans to dual-list on the ASX by as early as November.
