MGM Wireless wins NZ govt certification

School communications services provider MGM Wireless (ASX:MWR) has revealed it has received government approval in New Zealand for its Early Notification (EN) service.

The New Zealand Ministry of Education has confirmed that the EN service meets its truancy monitoring requirements, MGM Wireless said.

The EN is a text and email messaging service allowing schools to deliver customised messages to inform parents when their children miss school for unexplained reasons.

The certification means MGM Wireless' New Zealand subsidiary can now install its solution across the roughly 55 schools that have signed up the the service. It can, accordingly, start billing for the provision of the service.

MGM Wireless yesterday disclosed that delays receiving approvals in New Zealand held back the company's already strong 20% revenue growth during 1H11.

The education ministry plans to use EN in conjunction with the Electronic Attendance Register, which will be part of the Student Management System designed to be offered to schools.

The system forms part of a wider initiative to improve schools' IT capacity to manage elements such as school attendance, as announced in February 2010.
