NewSat picks a new COO

Satellite services provider NewSat (ASX:NWT) on Tuesday appointed space industry veteran Michael Hewins as its new Chief Operating Officer.

Hewins has over 30 years experience in the sector, including as chairman and CEO of Astrovision International, and then Astrovision Australia.

His speciality is in risk management and launch insurance, and he recently served as Chief Commercial Officer at space risk insurance broker AON.

NewSat said Hewins' brief as COO will be to provide his experience across all areas of the business, from strategy to operations. He will report to founder and CEO Adrian Ballintine.

NewSat is preparing to launch its first geostationary satellite, Jabiru-1, as it transforms from a reseller to a satellite owner.

Ballinitne said Hewins' experience will be useful as the company progresses to launch next year.

Last week, NewSat revealed it had won a five-year deal worth up to US$114 to lease capacity on the craft.

NWT shares fell 14.29% in Tuesday's trading to $0.006.
