Australian exporters confident for future

Australian exporters are confident in their prospects for the future, despite the challenges imposed by the rising cost of international trade, a survey shows.

Over nine in ten exporters questioned in Trident Global's Export Management Survey indicated they expect to grow export revenues over the next year.

Over 60% reported increasing export takings over the past year, with 15.5% growing revenue by over 25%.

Exporters view the strong Australian dollar as the most challenging obstacle to meeting growth objectives, and over half report concerns over increasing international competition and rising operating costs.

Sales and marketing activities are regarded as the most important actions that can be taken to mitigate these pressures, with weight also given to forming new partnerships.

“In an environment of growing global operations, the need to revamp current export management practices is cited as an imperative for many of the exporters surveyed,” the report states.

Nearly half of exporters surveyed indicated that they would need to increase staff to support scaled-up export operations.

The results may need to be taken with a grain of salt – the survey had a relatively small sample size of 71.
