Around 45% of Australian and New Zealand employees are planning to look for another job in the next 12 months, a new report claims.
A survey conducted by Insync Surveys and staff retention company RedBalloon indicates that only 40% of all employees are satisfied with their jobs, and almost half were open to new job offers.
Two in three employees in the energy and hospitality sectors, and 57% in the state government sector, intend to hunt for another job.
Nearly half of survey respondents named work-life balance the factor they like best about working for their current employer.
Insync CEO James Garriock said this indicated that employers can't improve retention merely by lifting pay. “The employee feel-good generated by a pay rise only lasts as long as it takes for the extra cash to be swallowed by the mortgage or credit card payment,” he said.
But the lion's share of 38% of respondents also named pay, benefits and conditions as the most important attributes of an ideal employer.
The survey also claims that the number of employees who would not recommend their employer to others has risen to 75% this year, from just 42% in 2008.
“In almost all cases, customers are more likely to be advocates than employees, and this is a major challenge and missed opportunity,” Garriock said.
