Shazam opens Sydney office to help its TV service

The company has seven million users in Australia and more than 275 million users across 200 countries.

Music app company Shazam has opened an office in Sydney to support the growth of its television service.

The office, located in North Sydney, will be spearheaded by Steven Sos, regional sales director and currently has two other sales staff.

“Consumers are shifting in their approach to consumption based on wanting to be heard or interacting with other viewers, wanting to know more and in the case of advertising wanting an easy way of finding out about offers, the product or simply to experience more,” Miles Lewis, VP advertising at Shazam, told Computerworld Australia.

The company launched its television service in 2011, which allows users to interact with advertisers beyond the television commercial.

For example, in its PepsiMax campaign, Shazam users could download the PepsiMax app to win a $30,000 vacation with friends.

“Shazam has had tremendous success with our Shazam for TV advertising service in Australia having already partnered with some of the country’s leading brands,” CEO Andrew Fisher said in a statement.

“Australia with its forward thinking, tech savvy and innovative media marketplace is a strategic opportunity for us and we are delighted to be opening our office and hiring a local team.”

In 2012 Shazam launched television campaigns with HTC, PepsiCo, Unilever, Proctor and Gamble and American Express.

The company plans to launch other Shazam-enabled commercials in the coming weeks.

The company has seven million users in Australia and more than 275 million users across 200 countries.
