University of Newcastle on the hunt for a CIO

New CIO to replace Mary Sharp, who is now head of IT for UTS Insearch

The University of Newcastle (UoN) is searching for a CIO to help lead its strategic plan to be a global leader in education, research and innovation by 2025.

The new CIO will replace Mary Sharp, who quit her post for a new role as head of IT for UTS Insearch, a Sydney-based higher education institution and pathway provider to the University of Technology.

According to a UoN spokesperson, Ann Walters, associate director of IT client services, is acting CIO until the new CIO is appointed.

The CIO will play a key role in the development of the university's NeW Directions Strategic Plan 2013-2015 by introducing new technologies to streamline activities and improve efficiency, and advancing the student learning experience through technology, the university said.

Reporting to the chief operating officer, the CIO will also be responsible for operating, delivering and supporting the university’s ICT solutions, as well as managing the ICT strategic governance framework, the UoN said.

Successful candidates will need to demonstrate their ability to plan and implement on organisational change, and provide advice on new trends and technologies that deliver on strategic objectives.

A copy of the strategic plan can be found on the UoN website, which includes the strategic objectives for IT.

According to the job advertisement on Seek, the university is offering an “attractive” remuneration package and is on a full time, five-year fixed-term basis with the possibility to be reappointed after the fixed-term period.

Applications close on 8 March 2013, the UoN said.
