Macquarie Telecom has increased its core network bandwidth capacity 10-fold following upgrades this year, driven by demand from the NBN and cloud.
The company expects more than half its customers to be ready for connection to the NBN by June 2016.
“With the NBN’s rollout now becoming a reality, businesses are looking at how to not only take advantage of its enhancements, but also ensure their platforms and services are compatible with the new infrastructure,” Christopher Greig, group executive – telecommunications, said in a statement.
“Our major network upgrade will make this transition to NBN – and the vast performance and growth opportunities it presents – seamless and intuitive for our clients.”
Greig said he expects the NBN will also drive demand for cloud-based applications.
The recent upgrades will allow Macquarie Telecom customers to run several applications at higher speeds with reduced latency, with the company now operating a 100 per cent IP-based Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) network.
Macquarie Telecom has also improved service uptime; enhanced carrier diversity to provide greater customer redundancy options; and increased redundant links to the company’s data centres.
