Samsung announces Galaxy S4 launch date

Samsung will officially launch the Galaxy S4 in Australia on Tuesday 23 April

Samsung will officially launch the Galaxy S4 in Australia on Tuesday 23 April.

The company sent an invitation to Australian media last week for a launch event in Sydney titled "Set 4 launch".

The invite invites attendees to "discover the next big thing" and includes an image of the back of the Galaxy S4 smartphone.

The Galaxy S4 was officially unveiled last month at an event in New York City. The phone retains a similar look and feel to its predecessor but includes a 4.99in full HD display, comes with a 13-megapixel camera and features a number of Samsung-exclusive software features.

Australia's major carriers have all confirmed they will sell the Samsung Galaxy S4 by the end of April.

Telstra, Optus, Vodafone Australia and Virgin Mobile were confirmed among a total of 327 global carriers that will sell the device.

The revealed launch of the Galaxy S4 came just a day after HTC announced that its flagship One smartphone, seen as the main Android competitor to the S4, would be available through all Australian carriers on the same Tuesday 23 March date.

The HTC One was unveiled back in February at multiple events in New York and London, but the launch has been delayed by component supply issues.
