Ocado upgrades online payment systems

UK online retailer has integrated the DataCash Secure Hosted Card Capture system

UK-based online retailer Ocado has deployed a new secure payments platform from MasterCard company DataCash as part of a two year contract.

Ocado delivers over 28,000 product lines including big-name brands, Waitrose goods, and a range of over 550 Ocado own label products. The Ocado on the Go app also provides shoppers with offers and basket-filling abilities when on the move.

As part of the new payments contract Ocado has integrated the DataCash Secure Hosted Card Capture system, giving its customers the ability to safely and securely pay for their orders using any brand of credit and debit card, whilst reducing the burden of PCI compliance on Ocado.

DataCash's tokenisation technology also produces a unique 'token' for each customer's card details, ensuring that the customer's full card details are not visible to or stored with Ocado, enabling customers to securely make repeat payments.

DataCash's tokenisation service will allow Ocado's returning customers to pay for their orders without having to input their full card details each and every time.

As part of the offering from DataCash Ocado will continue to benefit from 3-D Secure, an online authentication system for card payments developed by MasterCard to further help mitigate fraud.

"We sought a best-in-class solution that would simplify and secure payments. DataCash's implementation of its technology was second to none and its integration with our services was seamless," said Richard Exact from Ocado.

Last month Morrisons announced it is finally entering the online food business, potentially in partnership with Ocado.

Ocado confirmed it was in talks with Morrisons to supply technology to the supermarket to help it launch its online business. Ocado said any deal would not see Morrisons take any financial stake in the company.
