Telstra and Seven West buy a stake in online health directory

The HealthEngine directory allows patients to make GP and dental appointments online and through its mobile app

Telstra and Seven West Media have signed a $10.4 million agreement with HealthEngine for a stake in the online health directory business.

The two companies each committed $5.2 million.

The HealthEngine directory allows patients to make GP and dental appointments online and through its mobile app.

The site was launched in 2006 by Australian doctors and initially included a directory of health practitioners, with the online booking system launched in 2012.

Marcus Tan, HealthEngine CEO, said the focus of the company has been on general practitioners and dentists, with plans to expand into allied health and medical specialist sectors.

“This investment fits with both our Sensis digital marketing services business and Telstra Health, our new health business unit. Health Engine will be an important asset as we build capability in this area,” Rick Ellis, Telstra media group managing director, said in a statement.

Seven West Media’s chief operating office, Rohan Lund, said the agreement allows the company to partner with Telstra to build a patient and practitioner marketplace.

“This is an exciting space and the combination with Telstra and Seven West Media presents a formidable alliance,” he said.
