Microsoft has named Amy Hood as its group CFO in an internal promotion, announced late on Thursday.
Hood, who is the current head of MS Office division, the company’s most profitable unit by last corporate filing, is the first woman to hold the post at Microsoft.
She will be replacing Peter Klein, whose departure was announced last month. Hood joined Microsoft in 2002 after having worked at Goldman Sachs. While at the MS Office division, she worked on the acquisitions of Skype and Yammer by her company.
In a statement, Microsoft’s chief executive Steve Ballmer said, "Amy Hood brings the right talents and experiences to the role as we continue to strengthen our focus on devices and services."
News of Klein's departure followed that of Steven Sinofsky, the head of Windows, who quit the firm a barely a few months before. The appointment comes as Microsoft struggles with a lacklustre response to Windows 8; its latest operating system.
