Jive boosts mobile capabilities of its enterprise social suite

The company has a new iPad app, and an improved iPhone app

Jive Software is making a mobile push with new and enhanced mobile applications that have an emphasis on helping users of the enterprise social networking (ESN) suite create, not just view, content from their tablets and smartphones.

Responding to a significant increase in mobile usage of its product, Jive has developed its first native iPad application, enhanced its existing iPhone application and upgraded its iOS software development kit.

Jive has had mobile-optimized HTML5 sites of its software for iOS, BlackBerry, Android and Windows Phone devices, but with the new native applications its goal is to improve the experience in several key areas.

Specifically, the mobile apps are designed to make it easier for users to create, draft and edit documents. They have also been designed for finding expert colleagues and searching for information.

"We're focused on changing the mobile model from consuming to creating content," said Adam Mertz, Jive's director of product marketing. "We're changing the mobile experience from reading and posting quick responses to creating and having true collaborative experiences with partners, colleagues and customers."

Jive also upgraded a special iPad app it has for sales teams called Jive Present, and developed an Android version of it that will be available next month.

With the new iOS SDK, enterprise developers can create their own custom Jive applications, or modify Jive's existing iPad and iPhone apps, according to Mertz.

Asked about native applications for Windows Phone and BlackBerry devices, Mertz said Jive is focused for now on Android and iOS, based on the demand of its customers.
