New CSIRO division to focus on data-driven research

Dr Bronwyn Harch will lead the CSIRO Computational Informatics (CCI) division

The CSIRO has created a new research department that will focus on computational and information sciences.

Dr Bronwyn Harch will lead the CSIRO Computational Informatics (CCI) division, which will work with the CSIRO’s National Research Flagship program.

Research areas of the division will be data-driven and include autonomous robotics, next generation data analytics and systems modelling.

“The proliferation of smart devices and increasing access to next generation broadband has caused an explosion in the volume, velocity and variety of data and information,” Harch said.

“[It] is clear the amount of data we produce will continue to grow at an exponential rate.”
