Users want functionality without complexity with BYOD: Cortado

Cloud service provider finds users adopting BYOD in pursuit of convenience

Mobile workers want to access their files while on the move but don't want the complexity, according to Cortado APAC sales manager, Brendan Samuels.

The growth of BYOD has meant that a growing number of people in today’s business world want to use their smartphone for most common tasks.

At the same time, they want to access corporate files when they need them.

Unsurprisingly, Samuels said users now expect everything to work properly and reliably, almost as if they were using a notebook PC while on the road.

“They still want to have the flexibility of using those files in terms of being able to PDF a contract and send it to someone on the go,” he said.

Element of risk

Samuels said that it is this demand that has created a synergy between Cortado’s corporate server solution aimed at BYOD and its existing ThinPrint product line.

“The common link is that many executives and people on the move these days do not want to have to take a notebook PC or log in through VPN to see their files,” he said.

However, this drive away from traditional end points to BYOD has meant that several issues have cropped up, particularly from a security point of view.

For one, Samuels said users have attempted to circumvent limitations placed on them by corporate IT by sending emails to their personal inbox or storing files locally on their personal device.

“However, if that device was lost or stolen, it could be easily hacked and intellectual property can be sourced by the wrong people,” he said.
