The Western Sydney Institute of TAFE NSW has launched an ICT training academy to help meet demand for workers in the sector.
The new training academy is aiming to equip students with the skills they need to take advantage of new technologies.
Subjects include software development, networking, multimedia, Web design and project management.
Students will learn by using online resources, workshops and class-based training.
The courses will be available at Baulkham Hills, Blacktown, Castle Hill, Kingswood, Mount Druitt, Nirimba, Richmond and Wentworth Falls campuses. It will also be available online.
According to the Australian Workforce and Productivity Agency ICT workforce study, ICT demand is expected to increase 7.1 per cent by 2017, requiring an additional 33,200 workers.
“The ICT sector is fast-moving and ever-changing. We’re confident with our focus of working closely with industry our dedicated ICT AcadeMY will meet the needs of the sector now and well into the future,” Cecelia Cilesio, director Education, Information Technology, Arts and Media and OTEN, said in a statement.
As part of the launch, a competition to design a mobile app is being run for students from school, TAFE and university to develop a concept for an app.
